Last Saturday wasn’t the start to the New Year at Plainmoor we wanted was it, and these dark January days are bad enough without us playing that badly! In truth the match was probably the worst I’ve seen at home this season, and could not be a bigger contrast to the classic Forest Green fixtures over Christmas.
Boreham Wood are unlikely to be vying for promotion this season, but they were solid at the back and had some lively attackers at the other end. On days like that when quality is at a premium, that can sometimes be enough I guess. Their goal was so avoidable; I counted three United mistakes right in front of us on Bristow’s. The guy took it expertly, and it made a terrible game even worse!
One guy we could have done with on Saturday was Bliss, as long balls were played far too often (mainly to little Reidy upfront!). The predicted transfer to Plymouth happened and took him to Home Park last week. He will certainly be missed at Plainmoor. Sure he has not played great this season, but last year’s important goals and ‘great escape’ heroics will not be forgotten. It’s an excellent chance for him at a club that looks to be going places, so all the best for the future Nathan.
Talking of ‘the Green Army’, their draw at Anfield last Sunday was a terrific result and gives them a wonderful return game to look forward to. The Argyle defence was totally resolute and stood firm under constant pressure from the home team, whilst the big away following made so much noise. I couldn’t help but be envious in watching the match on TV. I think we all dream of the day when our name comes out of the hat to play Liverpool (or one of the other big EPL teams). With our recent Cup form I’d take Blackpool or Hartlepool, let only the Merseyside giants!
Talking about the FA Cup brings me onto today’s opponents for Nico and the boys. Woking did a job on us to kick us out of the cup this season, so we have scores to settle with them today! I’m not sure whether we’ll have any more resources players wise, but the lads can do better than the Boreham snooze fest – I just hope they’ll show it this afternoon.
Anyway join me in cheering the lads on; we need the points to push up the league I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again; we are better than the league table suggests. Now is the time to prove it!
Come on you yellows!
