TALKING POINTS

BOXING DAY
Totton away was not the pre-Xmas cheer we were all looking for from the Gulls..in fact it was a turkey. On another day United could well have won 3 or 4-1, they certainly had enough play and chances…however ifs and buts are not going to get the job done this season, we need results, and that takes us onto an important Boxing Day clash with Weston-super-Mare. After two defeats and a big crowd ready to pack Plainmoor, the pressure is on for Paul Wotton and his team to deliver some celebrations.
THE LINE-UP
The United line-up has been pretty much unchanged for a while now, but you have to wonder if PW will shuffle his pack on Boxing Day to shake things up a little. Kieran Wilson started his United career with a bang. He hasn’t managed to impact games much since then, but is certainly an option to start. Otherwise I’m sure (deputy penalty taker) Callum Dolan would love a place in the starting eleven after causing Totton trouble last weekend, he is the sort of character who could light up Plainmoor during a big game. Upfront it’s probably too early to recall Cody Cooke to the starting line-up, but Paul Wotton could be tempted, and Matt Worthington can’t be far off after injury.
THE OPPOSITION
The Seagulls are having another good season, and currently sit in 3rd place in the NLS with 42 points from 21 games. They also have an FA Cup 3rd Round tie against Grimsby to look forward to. Scott Rogers’ team beat Chippenham 1-0 at the weekend, and have been inconsistent at times, but who hasn’t in this league?! Striker and ex-Gull Louis Britton is their top scorer with 15 goals, whilst former Exeter City youngster Harry Kite is part of their midfield and Luke Coulson is always a lively presence in attack. This is a team that will most likely travel to Plainmoor looking to be positive and push for all 3 points, and that could make for an entertaining Xmas feast.
XMAS SPIRIT
A few weeks ago it looked like the Gulls were ready to push to the summit of the NLS and stay there, but two poor results have brought us back down to earth and left us wondering what will become of the 25-26 season. Such is life as a football supporter! The ups and downs, the trials and tribulations, the moments that make us feel like we want to be nowhere else and the times where you start to doubt if we’ll see higher divisions ever again! Torquay United have always tested our patience and loyalty, but the Yellow Army constantly bounce back and get behind their team. Whether you think Paul Wotton is the right man to take us forward and his guys…are the right guys to do the job, let’s make the noise on Boxing Day and help this team through what could be a tough afternoon. 3 points and we’ll feel better won’t we. See you at Plainmoor!
