MANAGER – ADAM HINSHELWOOD
Adam Hinshelwood recently returned to Worthing for a third spell following his dismissal as York City manager in the early part of the season.
His second stint with the Rebels had ended in March 2024, when he was appointed as York City manager. He led the Minstermen to second place in the National League in 2024-25, but an indifferent start to the current 2025-26 campaign saw him dismissed.
As a player, he made his name with Brighton and Hove Albion, Aldershot Town and Wycombe Wanderers before he was forced to retire through injury in 2010.
He first managed the club between 2013 and 2015, and later returned to the club in 2017, following a spell as an academy coach at Brighton. Hinshelwood also has a number of family connections with the Gulls, as his cousin, Danny Hinshelwood, joined the Gulls on loan from Portsmouth in the 1996-97 season and his brother, Paul Hinshelwood, played for United during the 2007-08 campaign.
PLAYER PROFILE – JACK SPONG
A Brighton and Hove Albion academy graduate, Jack Spong made his professional debut for Brighton & Hove Albion, on 25 September 2019 in a 3–1 defeat at home against Aston Villa in the EFL Cup.
In January 2023, Spong joined Crawley Town on loan for the remainder of the 2022-23 season. He made his first league appearance of his professional career on his Crawley Town debut, coming on as a 89th minute substitute in the 1–0 away loss at Leyton Orient.
After his release by Brighton, Spong signed for Scottish Championship side Queen’s Park. He left the club by mutual consent in January 2024. A month later, On 26 February 2024, Spong joined National League South club Worthing and made his debut on 4 March against Chelmsford City in a 1-0 away win. LAST MEETING
Last meeting: Tuesday 11th February, Worthing 2 Torquay United 2
In a match that saw two red cards and four goals, the points were shared between promotion rivals Worthing and Torquay United at the Sussex Transport Community Stadium.
Joe Partington broke the deadlock on 15 minutes but a Jordan Young free-kick levelled matters before Liam Nash nodded home to restore the host’s lead.
In the second half, there was even more drama as the game entered the latter stages, as both sides exchanged straight red cards. First, Sam Beard received his marching orders for a rash challenge on Jordan Thomas, before Sam Dreyer also saw red following a tangle with Temi Babalola.
If anyone thought the chance had gone for Torquay, they were to be sorely mistaken. Jay and Cooke both went within inches of levelling things up, until an injury time foray into the box from the latter saw his run ended abruptly, leaving the referee with no option but to point to the spot.
United’s leading marksman picked himself up and slammed the ball past Haigh, who guessed correctly, but couldn’t keep the ball out.
