TT PREVIEW

Miles discusses his team
SEASON SO FAR
A very tough season so far. The general feeling amongst Borough fans is night and day from when we came to Plainmoor in February, still hopeful of the title. Losing our best manager in years, most of our key starters and not replacing either well in the summer has led to a horrendous start to the season.
RECENT FORM
Our performances have been better but the results haven’t changed drastically. We have a bad habit of conceding goals at the start and end of halves. We don’t switch on quick enough or don’t have the mental resilience or experience to see games out. There have been halves of games where we play well but can’t string it all together to get the three points, especially at home.
HIGHLIGHTS
We beat step 5 Haywards Heath 3-0 in the Sussex senior cup in the week! Jokes aside, our first win of the season in mid October (yes mid October) away at Maidenhead was a great day. It was Tommy’s first game back in the dugout and the feel good factor was back, after a hard earned 1-0 win.
KEY PLAYERS
Ordinarily I’d say our talisman George Alexander at this point but unfortunately he’s been injured for most of the season. Our key player and major threat currently is new signing Kai Corbett. Probably similar to what Young offers Torquay. A creative, technically brilliant player who has an eye for goal too. He’s scored 3 goals in his last 3 games.
THE MANAGER
For those sitting in the main stand at Plainmoor on Saturday, you’re in for a treat. Tommy wears his heart on his sleeve and is by far the most animated manager we’ve had in recent years. Style of football wise, it’s a 3 at the back, high energy, attacking style of play that is exciting to watch when it clicks. We have been leaking goals though which is the opposite to how we were under Matt Gray (our previous manager).
PUSHING UP THE TABLE?
It can’t get much worse! Yes I am confident that we will be safe by the end of the season. We’ve got a good manager now, who has brought in a few decent signings with National League experience. Just need to turn the home form around as we are yet to win at home. Which is crazy after being unbeaten at home last season!
POSSIBLE LINE-UP
A few new signings to factor in so it’s tough to call but I’ll go with this:
GK: Sandford
RCB: Phipps
CB: Carter
LCB: Fairnie
RWB: Lintott
LWB: Mullins
CM: Sagaf
CM: Trusty
CAM: Corbett
CAM: Anifowose
ST: Aderoju
TRAVELLING SUPPORT
Probably around 40 I’d say.
BEST OPPOSITION
In all competitions, it’s got to be Boreham Wood in the FA Cup. Absolutely played us off the park in the 4th Qualifying Round. In the league, weird to say but we haven’t played a side that has blown me away so far. Only game we got smashed in was Maidstone and that was mainly because of our own errors and not taking our chances.
PREDICTION
Think we will put up a decent fight but won’t have enough so I’m going for a 2-1 Torquay.
