TT PREVIEW

Nigel discusses the Stones
PRE-SEASON
Mixed bag, really had a couple of 4-0 wins against Millwall & Colchester U21s, but we also suffered defeat against Isthmian Premier sides Chatham & Cray Wanderers. Although we did beat newly relegated St Albans.
NEW SIGNINGS
It’s difficult to say, really, as we only retained 4 players from last seasons squad. Probably the standout from the preseason is John Gilbert from Slough.
HOPES AND EXPECTATIONS
With the league getting stronger, I think a top 10 pushing playoffs is a realistic expectation. Hopefully, with a few additions, we can achieve a playoff spot.
FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON
Controlled the game for 80 minutes and created enough chances to be at least 2-3 goals ahead, but as we all know, if you don’t take your chances, then you know what happens, and Hemel Hempstead duly equalised in the 90+2 min.
THE MANAGER
George Elokobi, along with Craig Fagan, are a management duo still learning their craft. The style of play is defensive and not always easy on the eye, but it is hard to criticise when they’ve delivered two playoff campaigns and an appearance in the 5th Round of the FA Cup in their two full seasons in charge.
KEY PLAYERS
I would say John Gilbert is going to be a key player for us this season simply because he’s a player that we have been missing the past two seasons. He plays in the No 10 and role and has been integral in getting us playing more on the front foot and already looks like he’s going to be a player of the season contender.
AWAY FOLLOWING
I would expect a crowd of 3000+ first game of the season, two well supported teams, and sun is out. What’s not to like?
PROMOTION CONTENDERS
It’s so tough to predict. I currently have Torquay as champions, closely followed by Dagenham & Redbridge, Ebbsfleet, Dorking, and Chelmsford.
PREDICTION
It’s early season, so it’s hard to predict, but I’m going for a 2-2 draw.
