TT PREVIEW

Sam discusses Argyle
ABOUT ME
Hi there, my name is Sam and I’m from the Argyle Life Green and white podcast. We’ve been operating (on and off) since 2015 and are dedicated to providing an alternative Argyle voice for fan interaction and coverage of the team via both written and audiovisual platforms.
NEW MANAGER
It’s hard to say really, it’s become a bit of a cliche to say a manager spoke well at their unveiling. Nobody ever speaks badly! However, after the ‘aura’ of Rooney and the charisma of Muslic, it’s quite nice to have a manager who isn’t the main character for once. Tom Cleverley seems focused, quiet and determined to get Argyle back to the championship. I rate the job he did at Watford and I hope he can continue to get a squad to over perform expectations.
SUMMER SIGNINGS
It’s tough to say. If I’m being entirely honest, we’d hoped for a couple more marquee signings at this point, given the revenue made from player sales and the promise of a big budget to spend. However, that’s not to say we are without quality. Jamie Paterson when fit has proved very capable at championship level never mind League One. Winger Xavier Amaechi, former Arsenal youth protege, has looked very exciting in pre-season so far and left-back Jack McKenzie turned down the Europa League to join the greens.
PLAYERS TO LOOK OUT FOR?
It’s tough really – we can’t talk too much about players who were here last season as they’ve frankly almost all departed. Bali Mumba is the one big coup if we can stop him going before the close of the window. He absolutely tore up League One during our title season. In terms of Torquay loans, I think centre back Jack Matthews could be one to look out for. Freddie Issaka and Caleb Roberts may also go out on loan but I think we will be looking for National League/League 2 for that pair.
EXPECTATIONS FOR 25/26
I think I had hopes of bouncing straight back initially. Now, our squad looks relatively threadbare compared to the likes of Huddersfield, Bolton and Luton. I do like Cleverley and we’ve got some quality but given the sheer enormity of the turnover, I don’t think top two is a realistic target. Play-offs are more plausible- I fear we’ll just miss out.
