NEW GULL PROFILE

Sam talks about the newest Gull
What’s the record for the most Sonny’s in one team? Sonny and Cher only had one. Spurs have one-ish. But we now have two, somehow. Following the signing of Sonny Fish, the Gulls recently announced the signing of the brilliantly names Sonny Blu Lo-Everton on a free transfer from Yeovil. So who exactly is our new toffee themed signing?
CAREER SUMMARY
Sonny was born in London at a very young age, before joining Watford at the Age of 9. Despite The Guardian naming him one of the most promising players in a Premier League Academy’s in 2019, he never made an appearance for the Hornets. Instead he was sent out on loan to both Wealdstone and Yeovil before moving to Derby County in 2022 on a one year deal.
He failed to make an appearance at Pride Park, as he was once again loaned out to Wealdstone for the 2022-2023 season. He was released by the Rams in 2023, where he then made the trip back South to Huish Park to join the Yeovil. He was instrumental in Yeovil’s NLS title victory in 2024 and helped them secure their place in the NL last season. Sonny boy is eligible for about four different countries internationally, but has been capped by the Scotland U17, U18 and U19 team, with his last cap coming in 2020.
HIGHLIGHTS
Here he is scoring a poachers finish for Yeovil against Forest Green last season:
And here he is scoring another poachers finish in a 2-1 win against Oldham last season. He also got the second for Yeovil (3:06 in the video):
TALKING ABOUT SONNY
Paul Wotton on Lo-Everton signing for United – “Sonny’s also a ball-playing midfielder and technically very, very good. He’s brave and he’ll get on the ball and make us tick over. It’s another option for us in midfield which we need.”

MOST LIKELY/LEAST LIKELY
Most Likely To
- Burst forward at every opportunity. From watching the highlights, he seems to get forward a lot and create chances in and around the box. If he can get near double figures for goals, that could be invaluable.
- Be our first ever Hong Kong International. Sonny has Hong Kongese heritage, and has expressed interest in playing for The Strength before. Yes, that is their nick name.
Least Likely To
- Be an option off the bench. Based on Wotton’s interview it sounds like he sees Sonny coming in and starting for the Gulls. The midfield revamp continues.
- Be called by his full name. Lets be honest, its a proper mouthful and I forgot the full thing about 4 times while writing this…
CONCLUSION
It feels like the squad is pretty much complete, minus a back up goalie and maybe another centre back. The midfield definitely feels complete, with Sundire, Dolan and now Lo-Everton being the starting three. Add Hayfield and Morgan into the mix and its looking pretty good. Once again, this definitely feels like an upgrade on what we had last season and another positive addition for United. If he can contribute with the runs from deep that he looks like he has, he could be a game changer.
