ON THIS DAY

17 year old Lee Sharpe joined Manchester United for 185k on this day in 1988
The winger only played one season for the Gulls, appearing in 19 games and scoring 3 goals as we made it to the Division 4 play offs, losing 5-4 on aggregate to Swansea in the final. As part of the deal Alex Ferguson brought his team down for a friendly.
The skilful attacker went onto spend 8 years in Manchester, winning numerous medals as the Red Devils started to dominate English football, entertaining supporters with some imaginative goal celebrations along the way! He also earned 8 caps for England during that period.
Lee left for Leeds in 1996, but struggled to make an impact elsewhere, eventually retiring in 2004.
Since then he has appeared on various celebrity TV programmes and also worked as a football pundit. Most recently he resides in Spain, playing golf in professional tournaments, whilst also being the owner of a bar called Sharpey’s.
