NEW GULL PROFILE

Sam talks about the newest Gull
A second incoming in May? This is insane. After the announcement of Munashe Sundire last week, the Club teased us all with another incoming. This time, in the form of a Twitter Poll, asking whether we wanted more pitch updates or a new player. Personally, I voted for pitch updates but unsurprisingly the Yellow Army opted for an #incoming. This led to a game of Guess the Gull which saw our new signing lurking around Plainmoor in a retro United shirt. Very cool. Turns out, it was former Bromley winger Louis Dennis, who has signed a two-year deal with the club. So who is the newest Gull?
CAREER SUMMARY
Louis Dennis was born at a very young age in Hendon, London. He spent some time as a wee laddie in Watford’s Academy, before joining Dagenham and Redbridge’s Academy at the age of 10. His footballing education saw him make numerous loans from the Daggers, with stints at Bedfont Town, Welling United, Grays Athletic and Canvey Island before making his Dagenham debut in 2013. He struggled to make an impression in the First Team, which led him to joining Hayes and Yeading on loan in late 2013. The loan didn’t work so it cut short, and he then left Victoria Road by mutual consent in January 2014.
He moved south of the river to join Bromley in February of that year. He spent four very happy years at Hayes Lane, scoring 47 goals in 156 games, before Portsmouth came calling in the summer of 2018. He failed to establish himself at Fratton Park, making only 8 appearances in his year there before being sold to Leyton Orient. Two years, 49 games and 5 goals later, in 2021 he moved back south and re-joined Bromley. He helped them win both the FA Trophy in 2022 and Promotion to League Two in 2024, then left them this summer to join the Gulls.
HIGHLIGHTS
Here he is scoring a poachers finish for Bromley against Gillingham last season:
And here he is halving the deficit for Bromley against Tranmere last season:
And, for good measure, here he is scoring a screamer against us in 2022:
TALKING ABOUT LOUIS
Andy Woodman on Dennis when he re-joined Bromley – “…he’s a great professional and character, and it’s exciting to have him in and around our club.”
Andy Woodman on Dennis as a player – “…he’s that sort of player who’s our maverick sort of player and with those sort of players, you give them too many responsibilities”

MOST LIKELY/LEAST LIKELY
Most Likely To
- Play anywhere across the front three. He’s played both as a Centre-Forward and a Winger in his career, so expect to see him do a bit of both.
- Be given a fun nickname. I swear there is a comic strip character that has a name called Dennis. Troublemaker was it? Problem starter? Something like that.
- Become good friends with Munashe “Nash” Sundire. I swear this Dennis had a dog called Gnasher…
Least Likely To
- Be our top scorer. He’s only ever manged more than 10 goals in a season twice in his career. I get the impression he’s a creator/menace to defences rather than an out and out goal scorer.
- Play every game. He’s had his injury problems over the last couple of years, lets hope the South Coast air is good for him.
CONCLUSION
Much like the signing of Sundire, the signing of Dennis solves a problem for United. One of the issues we had last season was lack of options/depth up front. Add Dennis to Jay, Young and Cooke and we have a stronger looking attack already. He comes with great experience, having played all the way up in League One only a few seasons ago. I imagine there were a number of National League clubs targeting him, so it feels like a real statement being able to bring him to the English Riviera. With the announcement of Dreyer extending his stay at Plainmoor, it looks like the club are not messing around in strengthening the squad for next season. You love to see it.
