Joe looks at who the Gulls could sign this summer
CALLUM MORTON – STRIKER
Now this would be a massive coup, but there are circumstances that may help sway this in our favour. Callum suffered a nasty knee injury in October 2024 whilst on loan at Northampton Town which ruled him out for the rest of last season, now released by parent club Salford City he is on the look out for a new club. Whilst doing his rehab from his injury the Torquay born striker could be found most Saturdays on the away terraces amongst the Yellow Army and so what better way to bounce back from a nasty injury than firing your boyhood club to promotion?
If promotion had been achieved this year then this move could have been more likely but there may be teams higher up the pyramid not willing to take a chance on Morton given his recent injury, or potentially we could be used as a loan destination for Morton once he finds a new club and works his way back to full fitness.

SOL WANJAU-SMITH – WINGER
This move may have depended on whether Maidstone had gone up via the play offs but as they suffered a similar fate to us then we may be able to tempt the speedy winger, who has enjoyed a largely successful season for the Stones on loan from Bath City. Now released by Bath he will be in demand this summer and with links to the southwest he would be the perfect option on the left wing.
8 goals and 5 assists this season for both the Romans and the Stones isn’t earth shattering but he does play predominantly off the left wing with many of those appearances coming off the bench due to injury problems.

DOMINIC JOHNSON-FISHER – WINGER
Out of contract this summer the Truro winger would be of interest to Paul Wotton having originally signed for the Tinners whilst managed by Wotton, moving to Cornwall from Whitehawk in January 2024. DJF would make an excellent addition to Plainmoor if perhaps he could see the bigger picture that we *hopefully* will be pushing for the football league far quicker than Truro City might, this may prove a tricky sell given the fact they are a level above us, at least for one season anyway but there is certainly a huge difference in stature of the two clubs that could sway a decision!
As Johnson-Fisher is 21 Truro would be eligible for compensation as they have offered him a contract this summer, so he won’t be a freebie, but Wotton may be able to convince the ownership that he is worth the investment bringing pace and directness to the left hand side.

CHRISTIAN OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN – DEFENDER
A stand out performer for Truro last season he can operate at Centre back, Right back or Right Wing-back and was virtually ever present for the Cornish side. He was only on loan at the Tinners last season and finds himself out of contract at Kidderminster this summer so will be on the look out for a new club.
He’s likely to sign for Truro this summer but I just wonder despite being a level below them, if we can improve on the terms they are able to offer him whether we could tempt him to Plainmoor as our starting Right Back or Right Wing Back.

OWEN FOSTER – GOALKEEPER
Foster joined us last season on Registration Deadline Day as cover for James Hamon during the Play-Offs. Despite signing in late March he only made his way down to TQ1 in the week leading up to our Play-off Match against Boreham Wood. It remains to be seen whether Paul Wotton saw enough that week to make a move for Foster, but if he did then this move could suit both parties.
Foster has just been released by Hull City & at 20 years old will be keen to head to a club and compete for a No.1 spot. He’s no stranger to first team football having played twice in League Two & Eleven times in the National League for Scunthorpe United before he secured his move to Hull City for an undisclosed fee. Our location may not be as attractive to the northerner but his taste of Plainmoor action saw a sell-out crowd so he will have no doubt about the potential of our club. Kyle Cameron & Shaun Macdonald to name just a couple, have reaped the benefits of moving down here from ‘oop North’ and establishing themselves in the first team in Torquay and hopefully Foster may take a similar leap of faith
