Joe looks at who the Gulls could sign this summer
BEN PURRINGTON – DEFENDER
This would be a statement signing if we were to secure the 28 year old left back. Purrington has enjoyed a decent career playing for Rotherham, AFC Wimbledon, Charlton, Ross County & Exeter City since leaving Plymouth as a youngster. If I’m honest I fully expect him to turn up at Huish Park or even maybe Bristol Rovers next season but you can but hope! I’m also not sure if a starting left back will be high on our wish-list unless we revert to a three at the back formation and shift Foulston back inside to LCB or ask Purrington to fulfill that role.

JOSH COLEY – MIDFIELDER
Released by Sutton United, Coley is no stranger to Devon having spent a couple of years at Exeter City before making the move to Gander Green lane. At 26 years old he’s still got plenty to offer and could be an ideal option for goals off the wing. Matt Jay may be able to sell the club to Josh as they played together during Coley’s time at St James Park.

MITCH BEARDMORE – MIDFIELDER
Not sure I’d be looking to offer more than a trial this summer but given his locality it is certainly worth a look. Beardmore enjoyed an impressive scoring record for Plymouth Parkway, even scoring six in one match! He was recalled shortly after that feat and loaned to Bath City where he played 19 times scoring once. An attacking midfielder who can play centrally or out wide and could well be someone we take a look at this summer.

SONNY FISH – STRIKER
Paul Wotton is rumoured to have been a longtime admirer of the Crawley Town Striker who spent the latter part of last season on loan at Solihull Moors. The 21 year old is an imposing 6ft 1 striker and enjoyed a fruitful loan at this level in the 23/24 season for Welling scoring 6 in 10 games. Not quite worked out recently for him during loans to Gateshead and Solihull Moors so he’ll be looking to get his career back on track somewhere he can call home.

BRANDON BARZEY – WINGER
The Hemel attacker enjoyed his best goalscoring return of his career this season scoring 11 in 32 games. He’ll come highly recommended to Paul Wotton from his mate Lee Allinson after the Montserrat International informed Hemel that he wouldn’t be signing a new deal this week. Barzey can play on the wing or up top and has added composure to his raw pace and skill this season. A Crowd favourite, he was recognised by supporters and peers alike as he bagged both the Player’s Player & Supporter’s Player of the year awards at Hemel’s end of season awards evening.
He finished the season injured but would have been in the stands to witness United’s fantastic travelling support in the final game of the regular season and that may help convince Barzey in choosing to play his football down in the Bay!
STATS: DOB – 27/06/99, HEIGHT – 1.71M, NLS STATS 24/25 – PLAYED 32, GOALS 11, ASSISTS 1, CARDS – Y9, R1
JOE McDONNELL – GOALKEEPER
If talks were to break down with James Hamon this summer or if PW was to opt for competition for Hamon then this may be an option on the table. The ex-Eastleigh stopper kept 12 clean sheets and was ever present last season but finds himself released this summer. At 30 he still has plenty of years left as a number one and this would be a real statement signing for Paul Wotton’s side.
