JUST KEEP ON WINNING
Following the defeat against Chesham a couple of weeks ago, the equation for Paul Wotton’s men was relatively clear in their pursuit of title glory. Win the rest. And the first 25% of that conundrum was successfully negotiated last weekend at home. But now comes a massive test. A test that champions can win. A test that, if three points returned to Devon, would leave us with a massive opportunity to claim the title in the final two games. But we all know how challenging that will be in our first visit to the Truro City stadium. But Friday has to be all about us.
DEEP MOOSE?
One of the surprises of last week’s selection was the deeper position for Omar Mussa. He has usually been used in more forward areas, but he was sat in front of the back four, taking the ball off them and being the base of all of our attacks. The early dismissal led to there being more space and more room to play, which suited the Moose down to the ground. As discussed in this week’s Gull’s Eye View, will Paul make that selection again, or go for a more defensive option in Oscar Threlkeld? My instinct is the latter, but it would be a front footed option to go with Omar and trust him to the set the tempo. The whole game being in front of him does suit the midfielder.
RETURNING YELLOWS
Friday will also see the return of several ex-Tinners to Cornwall. Manager Paul Wotton, defender Ed Palmer, striker Cody Cooke and goalkeeper James Hamon all have history with Truro City, with Wotton and Palmer joining United directly from Truro last summer. All will be keen to make an impression as they return this weekend. Manager Wotton will be relishing the trip, and especially in a game of this magnitude. The opportunities and NLS riches that could come from three points will drive everybody forward.

COURAGEOUS CODY
The aforementioned Cooke has no doubt been one of the most effective signings made last summer. Last weekend saw him notch his 16th goal of the season. A goalscoring centre forward is key to any successful team, and the focal point of the team has been battered and bruised in most games. The arrival of Ozzy Zanzala in February has enabled him to take a break, but he has been back in the starting eleven and scoring goals in recent weeks, looking as fresh as ever. More goals from him in the final three games could be massive.
THE OPPOSITION
Wow, what a season Truro City have had in the National League South. Starting their first season in their new stadium, they have been a consistent force all season under the guiding hand of ex-league manager John Askey. Two 1-0 defeats at Plainmoor haven’t told the whole story, and Friday will certainly be a tight game in a match that means so much to so many people. Last weekend’s 3-1 win at Hornchurch was impressive, at a ground where Torquay and Worthing have been fallen this season. Keeping the dangerous front two quite will be key to getting a positive result, but there is nothing for United to be fearful of, in what will surely be a game of fine margins.
LET’S DO IT YELLOW ARMY!
So, let’s give it our all on Friday. The ticketing shambles has led to a smaller number than usual in Yellow being at the game, and the weather forecast doesn’t look great. But it is a game that we are so ready for. I am one of the lucky ones to have a ticket and I’m really looking forward to it. Three points would be massive. Let’s do it…..
