We asked Social Media Followers to name the best atmosphere they’ve experienced at Plainmoor
Steven Badcott – Scarborough play-offs 1998 when Rodney Jack was unplayable.
Christopher Hytche – Scarborough in the play off semi final second leg 1998 was pretty special. Being 2-0 up within ten minutes and knowing you’re basically in the final made it an 80 minute celebration. Won’t mention the final!
Paul Dennis – Has to be the night we beat Scarborough with Rodney Jack running riot. Not to be forgotten was the exquisite goal by Steve McCall. Just such a shame that great season was ruined by the Wembley ref against Colchester. Never a handball by Big Johh Gittens !!
@TTID_0 – Notts county PO 2021 for me. Even with a reduced crowd the atmosphere during/after that game was immense.
Mark Hirst – The Scarborough play off semi final in 98. The team fed off the atmosphere and were 2 up early on. That made the crowd even noisier. Shame about the final.
@OllieR36028 – Derby at home, truro was brilliant in the box I had or weston on a cold Tuesday night.
Paul Mulhern – Borehamwood away this season. The home fan never stopped. Seriously though I’ll throw a recent one in. Yeovil at home 3-0. Boxing Day 2021. Pop side were brilliant and drove team on to a brilliant second half. Laps got one of them sent off and then we destroyed them.
Jamie (@devonyellow) – Another vote for Scarborough at home in the playoffs. The popside was packed and really loud. I remember when we scored my feet didn’t touch the floor there were so many in the singing section. Definitely in my top 5 TUFC matches. Even a mexican wave going round the ground.
Clive Hayward – Maybe v Exeter in the 2008 playoffs. Mental when Hilly got us 3-1 up on aggregate. Better playoff memory when Rodney Jack destroyed Scarbro in 1998. Or any of the games when Fashanu got the winner! Exeter & West Brom spring to mind.
Alan Wills – I think it’s got to be the 1-0 League Cup victory over Spurs in 1987. I recall John Bartlett ringing his bell and exclaiming in his broad Devon accent “Never known a night like it!” on the old Popside. Attendance was capacity 4999, I think.
Ian Hayward – I remember beating Oxford in an FA Cup replay. My mate’s photo was printed in the Herald Express the next evening. He was halfway over the advertising hoardings in the old enclosure when his image was captured for posterity. Probably sticks in my mind as I was still a child…
