AWAY DAY HOODOO
It’s been bleak on the road in recent months for the Gulls, with a winless run stretching back to the end of November. Since their last away win, Torquay have collected just 5 points from a possible 21, so it was a relief all round when the ref put mouth to whistle to signal full time. Hopefully that’s the monkey off the back, a chance to kick on and find some consistency
KEY MOMENT – CARSON GOAL
NEW BOYS SETTLING
It’s taken a few matches, but Matt Jay has started to find his feet. You’d forgive the lad considering his game time, or rather lack of, over the past 12 months, but he is showing that class is indeed permanent. A busy lively player who always shows for the ball, and with 4 goals in his last 4 matches, also shows he has an eye for goal too. Elsewhere on the pitch, Zanzala capped a fine performance with a goal. The physical target man shown his strength on several occasions and proved he won’t be one to get knocked off his stride all that easy. Not just in the air, the Congolese frontman also showed his worth on the deck with some neat touches and sharp bursts of pace. He could be a key man in the run-in, and give Cooke some much-needed competition/assistance.
KEY MOMENT – ZANZALA GOAL
LIRAK LUNGE
Upon reading the socials, the home fans appear aggrieved at a number of decisions seemingly going against them. In particular, Hasani’s rather clumsy lunge halfway through the second half appeared to rile several of the Chippenham faithful. On another day and with another ref, there’s every chance Lirak sees red for the second time this season, but fortunately for United it was the sweet shade of Yellow which spared us a game changing moment. Surprised he wasn’t hooked thereafter, and he did well to avoid a second speaking to.
KEY MOMENT – JAY GOAL
SUBS
Wotton received plenty of criticism on the weekend with his use of the subs, so it wasn’t surprising to see him use them sparingly last night. Just 2 of the 5 took subs took to the pitch, one enforced through injury, in the shape of Zanzala, and a late change in Palmer (for Young). Whether fan criticism played a part, or PW trusted the starting XI, the decision paid off!
