AWAY DAY BLUES
I have been asking the question on GEV for weeks as to if our away form can hold up enough to get us to where we want to be. And Saturday saw the latest instalment that it can’t. 2-0 up at half time to a 3-2 defeat should never happen, and the away record is now a real concern. Our home form, especially against the opponents we have left, should get a good haul of points. But finishing second or third is massive in this division, so if it’s not to be top spot, the away form simply has to improve. Starting on Tuesday at Weston Super-Mare.
INJURY CONCERNS
Our worst run of injuries has come at the worst possible time. Jay Foulston and Jordan Dyer may be not be too far away, but neither can come straight in and play 90 minutes three times a week at the moment. Sam Dreyer will hopefully return after illness. The back three of Craske, Palmer and Moxey did ok so on Saturday, but those three returning will be key. The need for reinforcements and a second striker remain also.
JAY’S INFLUENCE
One of the highlights from Saturday was Matt Jay’s first goal in Yellow, and what a goal it was. He has settled now, and his ability to pick a pass and get in between the lines will be massive in these games to come. I think the formation has been tweaked to his advantage, and hopefully that first goal for the club will boost his confidence. He has clear ability, and more goals will hopefully follow.

TIGHT DIVISION
National League South is unbelievably tight. We were second heading into injury time on Saturday and ended up seventh. Defeat on Tuesday would see us out of the play off positions altogether. Which is why it’s a big night in Somerset. Victory gets some distance between us and them. The title is not out of our grasp if we can find a strong level of consistency, but it must come soon.
THE OPPOSITION
Weston are very much on the up after a slump on recent months. October’s defeat at Plainmoor was their first in 15 matches, but a poor run followed. However, 4 wins in the last 6 matches show a team that is finding it’s feet again, and Tuesday will be tough. We need to front up and show our character. See you there!
