Matt talks about the Hornets
ABOUT ME
I’m a 26 year-old digital marketing specialist who has supported Horsham ever since I was 6-years-old. Graduated from Uni in 2019 with a Sport Journalism degree and then began volunteering at the club as their Press & Media Officer that same summer, coinciding with the move to our current ground. I am also part of the club committee and mostly now only do media stuff with the club on matchdays.
HORSHAM FACTS
We have a club mascot called Howie the Hornet and have an unhealthy obsession with lard, including our fanbase being named the Lardy Army, with plenty of associated chants too. Check out this article to learn more! https://www.horshamfc.co.uk/2021/11/01/the-history-of-lard-at-horsham-fc/
FORM
Our league form’s been quite patchy and inconsistent. We’ve struggled to maintain momentum and consistency largely down to our cup runs. I believe we’ve only suffered 3 defeats in our last 30 cup matches across competitions so we’re definitely more of a cup team this year.
HIGHLIGHTS
Undoubtedly the trip up to Chesterfield in the FA Cup first round. It was the 3rd time in 4 years we’ve reached that stage and it was another great experience rounded off with us scoring, which made the trip worth it even if it ended in defeat.
KEY PLAYERS
Charlie Hester-Cook is a monster in midfield, plays like a bulldog so very hard to get the ball off him but he’s also prone to a booking. Chris Dickson is our top scorer this season, though most of those goals have come off the bench. Club captain Jack Brivio is a stalwart and been with us for 7 years now, and is phenomenal either in midfield or defence
MANAGEMENT TEAM
Our management team are very experienced. Dom Di Paola, our manager, is about to hit the ten-year mark at the club and is our most successful in our history. A very level-headed character who keeps his cards close to his chest.
AWAY SUPPORT
I think we sold over 100 tickets for Saturday, but after the rearrangement I can’t see us taking any more than 20 including committee now.
PREDICTION
Think it could be a close game but we’ve got a good record against NLS teams this season (played 2, won 2) so going to say a narrow 2-1 win for the Hornets.
