TONBRIDGE FACT FILE
Nickname: The Angels
Last season’s league finish: 14th in National League South
Tonbridge Angels notable honours:
National Step Three Super Play-off winners: 2018-19
Isthmian Premier Division Play-off winners: 2018-19
THE MANAGER – JAY SAUNDERS
A hugely experienced manager in non-league level, Jay Saunders made his name as a manager when he guided Maidstone United from Isthmian League Division One South to the National League in the space of four years. He took charge of Angels in May 2022 and guided the club to ninth in the 2022-23 campaign, which was followed by a 14th place finish in 2023-24.
PLAYER TO WATCH – SCOTT WAGSTAFF
A vastly experienced midfield player, the 34-year old recorded over 300 EFL appearances with Charlton Athletic, Gillingham and AFC Wimbledon. Wagstaff is probably best remembered for scoring twice when the Dons defeated West Ham United in the fourth round of the FA Cup in the 2018-19 campaign. On the eve of the 2023-24 season, Wagstaff was appointed club captain.

LAST MEETING
Saturday 16th March 2024, Tonbridge Angels 4 Torquay United 1
United were well beaten on Saturday, as Tonbridge ran out 4-1 winners at Longmead. After Tariq Hinds gave the hosts the lead, although United battled to restore parity, Tonbridge extended their lead after the break, through a Nathan Odokonyero brace and a Sean Shields effort. Brad Ash pulled one back but the damage had already been done, as the hosts confirmed a handsome victory at Longmead.

OPPOSITION Q&A WITH STUART JENNER
Season so far/Recent form – The season started very well but we have conceded more goals recently.
Highlights – Highlight was reaching the first round of the FA Cup.
Ryan Hanson – He’s done well. Had a good game last week.
Key Players – Sean Shields because he is creative and most likely to score
Manager – Jay Saunders was very honest after our cup defeat. Overall he’s doing well.
Away Support – I think we took about 80 last time. Not so many second time around.
Best Opposition – Certainly Harborough in the cup!
Prediction – I’d be happy with a draw. I remember saying that to you the last time that we spoke, but we won! Thank you for asking me for my views and greetings to your two fans who chatted to me in The Nelson Arms last season.
