21 MINS – COPPIN GOES CLOSE
Torquay spent much of the 1st half trying to find some rhythm in their passing, and it was the home team who looked more threatening, often encouraged by misplaced distribution from a Gulls player. Thankfully the chances were few and far between for the home team, with Noah Coppin’s acrobatic overhead kick just clearing the crossbar after United defenders struggled to clear a low throw. We have stuttered in the early stages of many away games this season and this half was no different. With sterner tests around the corner United cannot afford to be so sloppy or they will get punished.

70 MINS – YOUNG HITS THE POST
The arrival of WJD and Hasani from the bench on 66 mins helped increase United’s energy and suddenly Paul Wotton’s team looked more mobile and more likely to break the deadlock. Hasani smartly finds Jordan Young in space for this chance, the defender fails to appreciate that the striker is looking to cut in on his left foot and our new no.8 curls a shot towards the bottom left hand corner. Unfortunately the post gets in the way and Young is denied a second Torquay goal, but incisive passing and smart off the ball running like this is something we can build on in future games.

85 MINS – THE WINNING PENALTY
By this time in the game United were getting more bodies into the attacking areas and thankfully they get their rewards. Finley Craske makes a purposeful run into the penalty area and he is felled by a clumsy challenge from Canice Carroll. The ref rightly awards a penalty. It feels like United have been too conservative in away games this season, if we’re serious about pushing for the top positions then pushing men forward and rolling the dice in the closing stages of matches like these could make all the difference. As for the penalty, Cody Cooke takes his time, and his shot is both powerful and accurate enough to beat the keeper. Never in doubt!
