Joe dissects the key moments involving our new signing on his debut against Chelmsford
5 MINS – UNITED TAKE THE LEAD
It wasn’t long before Jordan Young showed Plainmoor exactly why the Bryn Consortium had shelled out an undisclosed fee for his services. Picking the ball up in his own half, after Dreyer had regained possession for the gulls, Young glided forward at least 50 yards in an almost Cole Palmer-esque fashion, beating 3 Chelmsford men in the process. He couldn’t quite get his shot away early enough and when he did pull the trigger, it was well blocked by the defender, but waiting to gobble up the chance was Cody Cooke, who slammed the ball home to make it 1-0. Pace, purpose and full of running, Young quickly had the Yellow Army purring.

13 MINS – YOUNG GETS HIS DEBUT GOAL
After Young had stung the keeper’s finger tips with a 30 yard left footed strike, Omar Mussa delivered a corner into the box. It was cleared and then cleared again but only as far as Omar Mussa, who curled the ball back into the box finding the head of Dreyer, a good block stopped it going goal-bound, but as the ball spilt on to the penalty spot, Jordan Young was first to react and slammed the ball low and hard into the bottom corner, 2-0 to United. This wasn’t an easy chance, but Young’s technique is perfect, head over the ball and meeting the ball with the sort of authority we’ve been begging for.

36 MINS – CONTROVERSIAL DISALLOWED GOAL
The addition of Young meant we could now have an in-swinging corner on both sides of the pitch. Youngy’s cross was delivered to the back post, a Chelmsford head met it and cleared to the edge of the area where Dan Hayfield was waiting. A clever header from Hayfield found Foulston whose touch teed up Dreyer to turn and slam the ball in the bottom corner. After a good minute or two, during the celebrations the Referee & Linesman decided that Cody Cooke, who had been laid on the ground behind the goalkeeper, had somehow interfered with play and the goal was chalked off. A very harsh decision and the game stayed 2-1. As for our new number 8, he had been constantly involved in United’s attacks in the 1st half, and being able to whip in a set piece delivery just adds to his value to the Gulls.

53 MINS – A FIRST LOOK AT A YOUNG FREE KICK
When Mussa was fouled just outside the box it gave United fans a first glimpse at Young’s free kicks. 20 yards from goal he let fly, and although he got it up and over the wall the accuracy wasn’t quite right and it sailed past the post. There was no doubting the pace he can put on the ball though, and it will certainly be a weapon that opponents will fear. There was also another decent attempt during the 2nd half from the other side of the box, Young certainly not lacking the confidence to take charge of matters only a few days after joining the club.

70 MINS – YOUNG MISSES A GLORIOUS CHANCE
A good tackle by Threlkeld dispossessed Chelmsford on the edge of the area, finding Young who managed to play a wonderfully timed through ball for Cody Cooke, the Keeper did well to save Cooke’s shot and then in a flash got up and sprung into action to deny the advancing Oscar Threlkeld. The ball was spilled again, this time to Young who just had to find a way to slot it past the goalkeeper and two defenders on the line. As he shot he just leant back slightly and blazed it high over the bar and into the directors box. This would have been the icing on the cake of a very good debut for our new No.8, who was a constant danger all game, and his interplay with the likes of Mussa and Cooke gave us more creativity and imagination in the opposition penalty area than we’ve seen all season.
