Harry picks the best team from his time supporting the Gulls
MY TUFC DREAM TEAM
Lucas Covolan (GK) – Was the first choice during one of the best seasons covering Torquay United. Fondly remembered for his goal in the play-off final and always played with a smile.
Ben Wynter (RB) – Probably the easiest decision is putting Wynter in at right-back. First choice after he stepped into Plainmoor and one of the most consistent players throughout his time. He scored that goal against Woking F.C. which will always be one of my favourite Torquay goals.
Kyle Cameron (CB) – Similar to Covolan as being first choice during the almost season of 2020/21. A dependable leader who became more versatile towards the end of his time at the club
Dean Moxey (CB) – Aged like a fine wine, a good one at that. Calm and composed during a worrying time for all and has lead by example. Mainly to be known as a left-back for most of his career but has been key at left centre-back during his time at Plainmoor
Liam Davis (LB) – The only player I’ve picked who started my first commentary game for Torquay over 7 years ago and a stand out player despite the season it turned out to be. Such as shame his career ended the way it did, felt like he had more games ahead of him.
Asa Hall (DM) – Probably the captain of this side. A leader who guided his team through the good times and the bad times. Much loved by the fanbase, even before the goal at Taunton Town last season.
Tom Lapslie (CM) – A fantastic midfielder to watch and one who had bundles of energy. Always looked like one of the first names on the teamsheet whilst he was at the club and I’m sure many of the Yellow Army would take his back fully fit.
Adam Randell (CM) – From the first game I watched Randell, I knew he’d be in Argyle’s first team in the near future. Such calmness and composure for a young player when he joined and became a major part of the season he was on loan at the club.
Connor Lemonheigh-Evans (CAM) – Had many different spells but his time during his permanent spell was the best to watch. On one of the few occasions I’ve had to make the trip to Plainmoor to commentate, him scoring a hat-trick against Notts County made it an easy decision to add CLE to this list.
Jamie Reid (ST) – The best striker I’ve seen play for the club. Had a slow start but once he was played through the middle there seemed to be no stopping him. Golden boot winner during the NLS promotion season and then taking to the National League like a duck to water, he was a joy to watch.
Saikou Janneh (ST) – Loved him up top with Reidy, especially during the NLS promotion season. Watched his career closely since leaving and surprised to see he’s still a free agent.

Honourable Mentions
Shaun MacDonald – If it wasn’t for Covolan, it’d be Shaun in goal. Always with a smile on his face with a fantastic attitude as well. Returned to the club when the goalkeeper situation was a tricky one and earned himself back on favour again.
Vincent Dorel – Purely nostalgia I’ve added Dorel. Started in goal during my first commentary game and made some fantastic saves but not enough to keep Torquay in the National League.
Joe Lewis – Strong and dependable when he was at Torquay. Thought if he’d stayed a season longer he would’ve been such a game changer but you can’t blame any player when a Football League club is calling.
Jean-Y’ves Koue Niate – The maverick centre-half was much loved and played a key part in the NLS promotion season
Jake Andrews – A great player who possessed so much talent whilst at Plainmoor. I do regularly think, what would’ve happened if he didn’t come off injured at Ashton Gate.
Armani Little – Only out of the starting XI due to CLE. One of the best players Torquay came up against during the NLS season and became key during the promotion pushing season. Had his critics during his time but was never going to be dropped.
Stephen Duke-McKenna – One of two exciting loan signings from QPR getting a mention. Grew in stature during his time and became a much loved figure.
Sinclair Armstrong – The other loan signing from QPR. You could tell he was going to have a great career ahead of him and made a massive impact during his loan spell.
Danny Wright – Simply for being such a great target man for the Gulls. Gave an extra dimension to Torquay’s game.
Elliott Romain – Similar to Vincent Dorel, scored in my first game and felt he gave some life into a Torquay team which ultimately got relegated.
