7 MINS – HORNCHURCH TAKE THE LEAD

It was another slow start on the road for United and yet another goal from outside the penalty area, which is starting to become somewhat of a theme. A long ball forward from the Hornchurch centre half was poorly dealt with by Jordan Dyer. His clearance could only find Liam Nash five yards away on the edge of the area, who lashed it towards the bottom corner. Hamon perhaps unsighted or caught off guard by Dyer’s mistake seemed to only dive once the ball was behind him in the back of the net. As for the slow starts perhaps there’s nerves or concentration issues it’s difficult to tell, but game preparation is an important aspect for Paul Wotton to work on.

62 MINS – HORNCHURCH MAKE IT TWO

After a brief spell of dominance from the Yellows after three half time changes, Hornchurch weathered the storm and broke to make it 2-0. A long ball from the keeper found Akinwande who was able to hold off Foulston and flick the ball around the corner. The ball finally made its way to the impressive Sean Scannell who slid a ball across the six yard box finding George Saunders, his shot cannoning off the bar and in off the back of United keeper Hamon. United need to be more aggressive in this moment, instead they allow the home team to progress far too easily without a proper challenge being made. A goal that is reflective of the lack of intensity in our play and the Urchins took advantage of this.

76 MINS – CONSOLATION FOR UNITED

All game United struggled to get down the wings and deliver any balls of real quality. That was until the 76th minute. Dyer advanced from defence and passed to Craske who made a beeline for the opposition box, a perfectly timed through ball found WJD on the wing and his low driven cross was gratefully tucked away by Cody Cooke at the near post. This goal is scored simply because United progress quickly and purposefully with the ball and keep it on the deck…more of this please!
