Dom discusses new signing Jordan Young
CAREER SUMMARY
Jordan Young was born in Chippenham in July 1999, and was originally a youth player at Swindon Town (whilst also representing Scotland at U15 level), making his full league debut for the Robins in 2016. He went out on loan to Highworth Town, before leaving for Coventry City in 2019. Young was then loaned out to Gloucester, a club he would join on a permanent deal in 2021. His next move was a loan to his hometown club Chippenham and he then joined the Bluebirds in 2022, but would not spend long there before Yeovil Town came calling in January 2023 and paid an undisclosed fee for the attacker. The Glovers were relegated from the National League, but Young then prospered in the National League South, top scoring for Mark Cooper’s table topping team and earning a place in the 2023/24 Team of the Year. During last season he signed a new contract until the summer of 2026, but Yeovil accepted an undisclosed fee from United this week, as Cooper rejigs the Glovers squad in the National League.

HIGHLIGHTS
Plenty to choose from as Jordan has bagged a number of goals over the years.
1 – Young curls in an unbelievable last minute equaliser for Gloucester City. The boy can play!
2 – Highlights compiled by Jordan’s agent. A nice mixture of goals that shows all the best attributes of his game, including a sweet free kick and tidy penalty box finishes.
3 – A clip here from the Gulls defeat at Yeovil last season. The left footed shot has authority and power in spades.

MOST LIKELY/LEAST LIKELY TO
Most likely to:
- Understand the requirements of playing in the NLS after enjoying success with Yeovil Town.
- Look for space to unleash a left footed shot from any range!
- Enjoy a game of arrows in his spare time (his X goal graphic last season saw him throwing an imaginary dart!).
Least likely to:
- Use his right foot very often.
- Struggle to find a place in the starting line-up.
- Be called a ‘Star Boy’ like at Yeovil….well I hope not anyway!
TALKING JORDAN
Paul Wotton – “Jordan is a player who excelled for Yeovil last season in the National League South, and he’s been very, very good this season for Yeovil in the National League. He’s a player who brings creativity, pace and quality to the squad.”
“I’m Here Because I Love Football,” – Jordan Young On Joining TUFC
OTHER NOTES
Represented Scotland U15s.
Yeovil Town Player of the Season 23/24 – winning 30% of the supporter votes.
Included in the NLS Team of the Year 2023/24.
CONCLUSION
When the speculation grew about Jordan Young making the move to Plainmoor, I think we all got excited, and rightly so. Young is exactly the sort of player Torquay should be going for, proven NLS quality and hopefully in his prime. You only have to look back to last season to see what he brings to the table, a season when Jordan won the Yeovil player of the year award, and there was some very good players in contention for that one. Looking at the highlights he is all left foot, but that left foot can do plenty! There is goals from outside the area, there is skilful dribbles and there is clinical close range finishes, lots to get our pulses racing. If things go to plan he’ll hopefully be able to replicate that at Torquay United, and with the side struggling in the final third, this signing has come at just the right time. If he can combine well with Cody Cooke and help bring intelligence and cutting edge to United then it could make all the difference. All in all a statement signing that shows the Bryn Consortium mean business and shows we are very much pushing as hard as possible to escape the clutches of the National League South. A warm welcome awaits for the 25 year-old, good luck Jordan, in the words of Michael Westcott – “Go smash it”.
