We asked Facebook & X Followers to name their top midfielder in their time watching the Gulls…
ALEX RUSSELL

@darren_howlett – Alex Russell tops it for me…….I also thought, for his age Eunan O’Kane was amazing
@Easters86 – Alex Russell is the answer.
@chrisjballard – Alex Russell is probably the correct answer, but Mark Loram is also a candidate (assuming you count him as a midfielder).
Darren Rowe – Alex Russell was the best midfielder . He was central as well. Loram and Jack were wide players.
Steve Browning – Russell, but who remembers Steve Philips ,we use to sing he’s fat he’s round ,he’s worth a million pounds!
@AlexBrim – Alex Russell. Jason Fowler was also top class too.
EUNAN O’KANE

@FMStory17 – I remember watching Eunan Okane run around the midfield chasing balls. I remember looking at him thinking wow.
@adamburr14 & @bronterre1 – Eunan O’Kane
@d_torq – Hill, Fowler, Russell, O’Kane
JASON FOWLER

@steveharris84 – In terms of general consistency, it would have to be Alex Russell. However, the best individual display I remember from a midfielder was from Jason Fowler against Crystal Palace in the Worthington Cup in 2003-04.
James Etoe – Jason Fowler was class.
Warren Elliott – Both Alex Russell and Jason Fowler. I’ve seen a lot of centre mids for us who were good pros, battlers, ball winners, cloggers, workhorses etc, but those two had skill, guile, could read and control/dictate a game, could win the ball as well, basically the the lot in that position.
