Dom discusses the upcoming games
17/02/24 – BRAINTREE TOWN (A) NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH
The Opposition: Braintree Town currently sit 11th in the National League South, and will still harbour dreams of making the play-offs again this season. Their recent form has been steady enough, with a draw away to Maidstone and a 2-1 victory away at Truro City. They have conceded a very reasonable 33 goals from 28 games (10 less than TUFC), and like many teams will be looking forward to the visit of the Gulls, and a chance to add to our away day blues.
Last Time Around: 28/08/23 – TUFC 2-1 Braintree Town, NLS – Aaron Jarvis’ injury-time penalty clinched back-to-back comeback wins for United, who also chalked up their 4th successive victory in the process.
Early Prediction? With the games coming thick and fast United’s fitness will be tested, and this one could, like many away days, end in a miserable trip home. BRAINTREE WIN.
20/02/24 – FARNBOROUGH (A) NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH
The Opposition: Farnborough FC started the season well, and looked like play-off contenders. But since then their form has nose-dived and they now find themselves in 17th, and glancing awkwardly at the teams below them. The Boro’s biggest trouble has been conceding goals, with 50 shipped in 29 games so far, and they have lost their last 4 games, to St Albans, Havant, Hemel and Eastbourne.
Last Time Around: 05/09/23 – TUFC 3-0 Farnborough, NLS – Two goals from Jarvis and one from strike partner Ash gave United a comfortable win at Plainmoor.
Early Prediction? Another away trip incoming, and this one looks easier on paper at least. I’ll go for a Gulls win and a 23-24 double over the Boro. TORQUAY WIN.

24/02/24 – AVELEY FC (H) NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH
The Opposition: Newly promoted Aveley FC have been a revelation in the NLS this season, pushing towards the top in the early months and more recently keeping their form up and staying in the play-off spots. They are now 5th and are unbeaten in 2024 so far, drawing against Chippenham and Taunton, and beating Welling and Eastbourne. Danny Scopes’ team will relish the opportunity to come down to Plainmoor and complete a double over the Gulls.
Last Time Around: 02/09/23 – Aveley FC 2-1 TUFC, NLS – United’s winning run came to an end, as The Gulls slipped to a 2-1 defeat at Aveley’s Parkside Stadium.
Early Prediction? A narrow win for the Gulls. TORQUAY WIN.
27/02/24 – TRURO CITY (A) NATIONAL LEAGUE SOUTH
The Opposition: Truro City have suffered with numerous postponements in 2024, with their most recent game resulting in a 1-2 home loss to Braintree. They’ve only played 25 games up to this point and sit precariously in 19th position, with a backlog of games to come. Paul Wotton’s White Tigers played well at Plainmoor on Boxing Day and will be desperate to avoid the drop back down to the Southern League after coming up last year.
Last Time Around: 17/01/23 – TUFC 0-1 Truro City, NLS – Ben Adelsbury gave the White Tigers the lead early on and that proved to be the game’s deciding moment, after a frustrating 2nd half in front of goal for United.
Early Prediction? This busy month will take it’s toll on United’s players and we can only hope the squad is in much better shape and form than when it started. I’ll predict the White Tigers to give us more trouble (chuck in your predictions below)! DRAW.
