LAST MEETING
Saturday 5th August, 2023, Dover Athletic 2 Torquay United 2, NLS
Two goals up in less than 20 minutes and seemingly well in charge, Torquay United allowed underdogs Dover Athletic back for a 2-2 draw on the opening day of the National League South season at the Crabble.
Gary Johnson’s Gulls enjoyed a dream start when home defender Chevron McLean ‘scored’ an own-goal from Lewis Collins’ cross in the fourth minute.
When skipper Asa Hall finished off a quality move after 19 minutes, the travelling Torquay fans could have been forgiven for looking forward to a comfortable first victory of the season.
A George Nikaj goal just before half-time and an equaliser through Roman Charles-Cook midway through the second half earned them a share of the spoils.
