OPPOSITION Q&A

Miles discusses the Sports
BEARD LOSING HIS JOB
Think it’s right the decision to sack Mark, as we ultimately haven’t lived up to our own and other’s expectations. Especially as a full time club with good financial backing. We gave him plenty of time to turn results around and it’s admirable that the owner stuck by him for so long. However if we are to avoid relegation, something needs to change.
THE PROBLEMS
Combination of factors really. A whole new squad that needed to gel initially, then we had an injury crisis. We could only field one outfield player on the bench for our FA Trophy tie against Hendon! On top of that the squad is very young and inexperienced; add to that the manager hasn’t been a manager before. Too many issues to deal with and that’s why we’ve been so poor.
THE NEW MANAGER
Very timely appointment. Looks a great acquisition, Adam knows what it takes to win the league at this level. His know how will be invaluable for us. Not only in the future, but this season our aim is to stay up and he’s been massive for Cheltenham turning their season around from a very slow start. Hopefully we can get a “new manager bounce” now on Saturday!
HIGHLIGHTS
There haven’t been too many since we last played! The 2-0 win away at Welling felt huge for our survival hopes as they are also struggling. Earlier on in the season we beat St Albans away 3-2 after coming back twice in that game. Zak Emmerson, now returned to Blackpool, scoring a hat-trick off the bench.
AWAY SUPPORT
To be honest not many will make it. Me and my mates were thinking of going down there but our recent performances just haven’t been acceptable enough to warrant a 500 mile round trip! I know a few are going but we are talking around 5-10 here…
BEST OPPOSITION
Worthing were absolutely class in both games over the festive period. Played us off the park to come away 3 and 4 nil winners. We barely laid a glove on them over the two games and they played some great football too. Their manager, Adam Hinshelwood, is a quality manager.
PREDICTION
Think you’ll have too much for us, but hopefully we show some fight. 3-1 Torquay.
