Dom discusses the NLS game
LOOKING FOR 6
The Gulls are back on their travels on Tuesday night looking for a sixth win in a row at Taunton Town. A late winner always propels the victor onto the next game in fine spirits, so United have a great chance of continuing their strong form in Somerset and also edging closer to Yeovil Town, who don’t play until Saturday. There’s going to be a big Yellow Army following and it should make for a lively atmosphere at the ‘Somerset Campervan Co. Stadium, it’s up to United to keep their cool and do the business.
THE LINE-UP
Anything can happen with this Torquay squad, as players suddenly emerge back onto the team sheet after injury, it’s very difficult predicting what will happen from one game to the next. After his unlucky red card Brett McGavin will stay in the line-up for this game at least (if I am being told right!) before missing the Chelmsford trip, whilst Ross Marshall hobbled off in trademark fashion on Saturday and could be replaced by Dylan Crowe. Upfront Theo Williams battled hard on Saturday, doing his best with his back to goal on a number of occasions, but missing a strike partner to take the weight off his shoulders. At Taunton his pace through the middle could be key to this one.
THE OPPOSITION
Taunton Town started the season very well, but have struggled recently, losing some key players and dropping down to 16th in the NLS. With finances tight, manager Rob Dray has done an excellent job, but they will be worried now about getting sucked into a relegation scrap if the losses mount up. Saying that, they did beat Farnborough 4-0 the other week at home, so that is a warning for United in the build up to this one (even if they did lose 3-0 to Havant last time out!). With a bigger than usual crowd in attendance and a chance to put one over us, the home team could be a dangerous proposition, especially if, like Saturday, we hand over an early goal.
STEPPING INTO CHRISTMAS
Four games coming before the end of the year, and I’ll be at three of them (yes the low price for Truro (a) did help sway me!). Considering the disappointment we’ve all suffered this year, I think the support has been fantastic again and the attendances have been excellent, especially considering the lack of numbers brought by the opposition. With the team dipping down to the NLS again, supporters could have easily turned their backs on the club, but our passion and loyalty remains. The football is often underwhelming but the socials and banter are always fun, so I look forward to seeing everybody about in the coming weeks and hopefully celebrating a few wins together.
