EASTBOURNE 1-4 TORQUAY UNITED – MATCH SUMMARY
I’m glad I was given this game and not Saturday’s as not only did win away but played some decent football, dominated most of the play and took our chances. It was not outstanding as Eastbourne were pretty poor, even with 11 men let alone the 10 they played with for an hour. But at present a win is a win and we are back up to 6th in the table.
Thankfully we began better, got on the front foot early and dominated the play; there was just so much space to play in compared with at Dartford. We also pressed the ball better, pushed Borough back and passed well overall, even if the touch was not always great.
Dolan set the night on the right foot on 13 minutes when good work from Marshall saw Dolan cut inside and slap it from the edge of the box. Chris can stop going on about his first 30 minutes stat now, and most certainly after 22 when some really good passing saw McGavin step inside his marker and side foot a shot into the bottom corner.
On 28 minutes we all thought, well cannot lose from here when the second slightly rash tackle from Defise saw the yellow/red card combo from the refr- who did like a card all night. Annoyingly good opportunities to create chances came and went; Dolan and Ash went close to killing the game and then Lapslie should have scored when put in with just the keeper to beat. Half time felt good tonight unlike Saturday.

We began the second half well, Stobbs had a header blocked on the line but then slowly the 10 men came into the game and for 10 minutes we were under pressure and up popped the ref. with a bit of a soft penalty for Borough. However, Harris putting two hands on a big striker was probably not a good idea. Halstead was unlucky as the penalty hits his feet and spun slowly into the net.
They came at us for a bit, and you could not help but feel no it could not happen. Thankfully not, as we reasserted control and after that it was how many could we score. Good passing led to no.3 as Ash was clattered as he went through and McGavin smashed the 18 yard free kick over the keepers head and in of the bar on 70 minutes.
On 79 minutes the hard working Ash got an excellent goal, as accepting Crowe’s ball into his feet he rolled the defender and slapped it in from 20 yards.
Let us get this clear, we were good but against a poor side, who did not press us like Dartford had but with the ball at our feet and no long balls being played we were good.

MAN OF THE MATCH – BRETT MCGAVIN
He controlled the game from beginning to end, smacked in two quality goals from the edge of the box and looked a very good player. That’s 6 for the season now.

HONOURABLE MENTIONS
Dean Moxey was excellent, read everything so well and played some great long balls too, also Callum Dolan who looks a quality player, although drifted out of the game in the second half.
THE OFFICIALS
Referee did well, bit yellow card happy but did not shirk the sending off or the penalty for that matter. Good game really.
TACTICS
It was a 3.3.2.2 with McGavin, who had a better game, sitting in front of the defence with Stobbs and Harris at wing back, although in reality Marshall was able to play at right back for much of the game. For once we dominated the midfield and created plenty of chances, four of which were dispatched.

OPPOSITION
Even before the sending off you could see why the sit 5th from bottom. Precious little football played and the ball given away far too often.
CONCLUSION
This is how the league was supposed to be, us making the teams in this god forbidden league look poor. Next game will probably be different though, it always is this season. Well done to the hardy Yellow Army who made the trip.
