TT INTERVIEW

Ian talks about the Glovers
THE PODCAST
I always felt the club could do with a podcast, so in 2020 I started chatting to supporters of the other clubs and previewing/reviewing our matches and then we went into lockdown! With the help of my fellow Gloverscasters Ben and Dave (and a revolving cast of Glovers) we’ve evolved into interviewing former players and filling the gap where our local news has let us down with reporting on the club. We worked hard to hold our previous owner to account which got us a ban, but we’re proud of doing right by the club!
SEASON SO FAR
It’s hard not to be happy when you’ve won 11 in a row! It was a difficult start to life in National League South with the loss against Hemel and we’re still the only team who’s lost to Havant. But since Havant it’s been unbelievable. With the quality of our squad I think we all felt we should be towards the top and we’re really playing well.
HIGHLIGHTS
The FA Cup matches against Southend and Gateshead have proved that we can compete against good teams from the League above. The first half against Aveley where we absolutely blew them away was a highlight too.
KEY PLAYERS
Rhys Murphy is looking lethal in the box. Jordan Young has been unplayable at times and is a real creative force for the team at the moment. He’s dangerous on set pieces and has a wand of a left foot. The loan signing of Joe Day was a real turning point for our season though. He’s a dominant goalkeeper who’s made our defence so much stronger too.
TALKING NOUBLE
Frank probably had his best game against Gateshead this weekend. He’s struck up a great partnership with Rhys Murphy. He has been in and out of games at points but when he’s up for it he’s unstoppable. What we’d have given for him at the end of last season.
THE MANAGER
Mark Cooper has had quite an eventful year as Yeovil manager. It’s taken a bit of time (and a few wins in a row) for supporters to warm to him and he seems to be enjoying himself now too. Tactically he seems to have a plan for every match at the moment. We started out the season with a back three but he’s settled on a 442 / 4231 which is producing performances and results. He’s not afraid to change it up if he knows it’s not working either.

THE LATEST POD
BEST OPPOSITION
I was impressed by the quality of football Chelmsford City, Eastbourne Borough and Braintree played. They all got the ball down and moved it well. Of the players I’ve seen, I’d say Leone Gravata of Eastbourne Borough was the best I’ve seen, he gave us torrid time at Huish Park.
TITLE CHANCES
There’s still a long way to go but we’ve definitely got the quality to win it. Life as a Yeovil supporter over the last 10 years means I’ll never fully fancy our chances!
PREDICTION
I don’t like predicting results, but we’ve had some great starts recently so if we come out of the blocks quickly I think we’ll have a good chance. One thing we know about a Gary Johnson team is you can never count them out. We’re confident but fully expect a tough night.
