TALKING POINTS

Chris’s son Ben discusses the entertaining win over Chelmsford
BRILLIANT BRETT
I thought Brett McGavin was fantastic today. Not only his goal, but his tackling was excellent and his play in general was certainly encouraging. Brett is not always a brilliant performer but he is definitely showing signs of promise. He got on the ball well and created opportunities when possible. Despite his yellow card, McGavin also tackled well and won the ball back for us on multiple occasions. Now for the goal. What a goal it was. I was right behind the shot as he leathered the ball beautifully and it flew into the side-netting. The crowd went wild!

JARVIS AND ASH
Brad Ash and Aaron Jarvis fought really hard. They scrapped with the centre backs and won a lot of their duels. Although they showed a lack of clinical finishing in the first quarter of the game, the intensity and the will to keep going was phenomenal. I thought Brad Ash was really good, especially in the second half where he pounced on the tired defenders and caused chaos for them to deal with. Jarvis looked really good. He played pretty well today and worked incredibly hard. What I like about him the most is his desire to give his all for the team even when he can barely walk!
SOLID DEFENCE
Tomlinson and Marshall were awesome today. They were always reliable at the back and got out of some pretty iffy situations at times! They weren’t afraid to put their foot in and they didn’t give their strikers an easy job. Tomlinson clearly looked rattled at half time but he came out for the second half with a positive attitude and was a lot better at his physical game. Dean did excellently on the left but didn’t look as lively towards the end. I was particularly impressed with Shaun Donnellan today as he played nicely alongside Stobbs and supported him fantastically.
UP TO 3RD
I am pleased with our start to the season. After 9 games we have 6 wins, 1 draw and 2 defeats. We have played some pretty good teams so far who will be up there at the end. We haven’t always dealt with these tough games brilliantly but this match our performance was better, despite a bit of sloppiness with our passing. We are up to 3rd in the league and are only a point off top. Unfortunately, it doesn’t come down to the table now but hopefully we’ll be in the mix for promotion come the end of the season.
