TT INTERVIEW

Peter talks about the Rebels from Worthing
ABOUT ME
I’m originally from Birmingham, I moved to Worthing in 1995 and discovered the joys of Worthing FC in 2017, yes a long time coming! I started as a fan behind the terrace and sort of fell into the commentary after a chat with the owner George Dowell.
PRE-SEASON
I never enjoy pre-season and I don’t think you can read a lot into it, but it’s fit for purpose in getting players fit and prepared for the new season. I’m brushing over the 3 home defeats. lol.
OPENING DAY WIN
In my opinion, the opening day victory was well deserved although we had to wait till the 95th minute for the winner. The overall performance was very good. Our possession game gave Tonbridge a lot to think about and we were always on the front foot backed up by the stats of 12 corners to 1.
SUMMER SIGNINGS
I’m very excited about the signings that have been made this summer as it gives us a good blend of experienced players to go alongside the youngsters that are breaking through into the squad. Nicky Wheeler is going to be a handful for any right back this season and will be full of confidence after last Saturday’s winner. Joe Felix is a livewire and can play multiple positions and we have more steel in midfield with Michael Klass and Ricky Aguiar who returns on loan from Swindon. Upfront we have Greg Leuer who will score goals. And we have Rocco Rees in goal who joins us for a 2nd time after being released from Brentford.
KEY PLAYERS
In my opinion, the key players are the same ones we have had for a few seasons who helped us get promoted from the Isthmian league. Ollie Pearce our number 10, Aaron Racine at centre back, and Joel Colbran at right back, each one of them will give 100% week in and week out and are club legends in my opinion.
THE MANAGER
Adam Hinshelwood manages the team, an ex-professional who was Brighton and Hove Albion’s youngest-ever captain, his career was sadly cut short because of injury. If I told you the tactics he would probably shoot me but he does mix it up depending on the opposition and he makes a few changes during games, so he always keeps the opposition on their toes.
AWAY SUPPORT
I know we have a full coach and I think there may be a mini-bus or 2 and some are traveling Friday so you can expect some noisy Rebels in the ground on Saturday.
EXPECTATIONS FOR 23/24
I think we have set a high bar this season with last season being so successful so I would be a little disappointed if we weren’t challenging for the play-offs again this season.
INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT WORTHING FC
It’s hard to believe the club nearly ceased to exist in 2015 with debts, etc, buckets were being passed around the ground to collect a few pounds each week, but since it was purchased by George Dowell it has gone from strength to strength with a pitch the whole community can use and the upgraded facilities around the ground which are always improving. And best of all this has been achieved without getting into debt and the club works from a sustainability model, if we haven’t got it, we don’t spend it!
PREDICTION
I knew you were going to ask me this and I should only give you one answer a Worthing win but I would be happy with a share of the points, whatever happens, I’m looking forward to a good game.
