With friendlies lined up against EFL Youth Teams, it’s easy to assume that Gary Johnson will be trying to make deals with opponents on some loans that will help add extra quality and depth to his Torquay United squad.
Let’s take a look at some prospects that could turn up at Plainmoor for the start of 23/24, starting with PSF game 1 – Reading FC U21s…
READING FC U21s
JOHN CLARKE

Clarke joined Reading from Port Vale in 2022, and went onto make four appearances for the then Championship team last August. He also gained 3 caps for the Republic of Ireland U19s in the European Championship Qualifiers. John unfortunately suffered a knee ligament injury last December and missed the rest of the season.
AGE: 19 – POSITION: FULL BACK – APPEARANCES/GOALS (SENIOR TEAM): 4/0
SAM PAUL

Sam Paul signed pro forms with Reading last summer and is an attacking full back who can play left or right. He has yet to make a first team appearance at the club, but has played in the U18s and U21s, including Premier League 2 and the Youth Cup.
AGE: 19 – POSITION: FULL BACK – APPEARANCES/GOALS: 0/0
MICHAEL STICKLAND

Stickland made his Reading debut in August 2021, and then signed his first professional contract last summer. Since then he has made two appearances for Reading, He has also featured in the Reading Youth teams and notably captained them a number of times.
AGE: 20 – POSITION: CENTRE BACK – APPEARANCES/GOALS: 3/0
LOUIE HOLZMAN

Holzman made his senior debut for Reading in early 2022 against Kidderminster in a 3rd Round FA Cup tie. His next appearance was in August 2022 in the Carabao Cup and he was also on the bench twice for the senior team last season.
