TT OPPOSITION Q&A

David Johnson discusses Altrincham ahead of the final-day fixture in the National League
So how would you summarise Alty’s season?
Its been a mixed season, fantastic to be back in the National league after our free fall to the Evo Stick Premier a few seasons ago. We started slowly, gained momentum, but then faded after we beat yourselves.
Of late the manager has been assessing players for next season, so not always put out what we would class as our strongest 11 available, so a little frustrating but understandable.
How’s your recent form been?
Recent form has been poor overall, no win in 7 prior to beating Yeovil on the weekend, but a lot of that was down to injuries and player trials for next season.
What’s your highlights of the season?
For sure staying up and beating yourselves at your place to name but two.
Who are your key players and why?
Key players are Ryan Colclough, who’s done really well for us on the wing this season and scored some spectacular goals, Josh Hancock who’s been with us since the Gaffer took over in the Evo stik Premier is great in midfield and top scorer with 12 goals this season.
Who’s the gaffer and what tactics does he like to use?
Gaffer is Phil Parkinson, he’s fairly new to management and never managed at this level previously, so learning as he goes. Generally plays a passing game from the back with a lone striker.
What’s your probable line up for Saturday?
Line up will likely be as Saturday past, with hopefully Hannigan returning from injury to C/H. So; Thompson, Senior, Mullarkey, Hannigan, Ogle, Moult, Smith, Mooney, Peers, Hancock, Colclough.
Which opposition teams and players have impressed you most?
Sutton have impressed me, been very consistent.
What should we expect from the Alty stream?
The stream has improved through the season, its run by volunteers, generally good quality and fairly unbiased commentary. Replays and other camera angles are used.
How would you rate Alty’s season overall?
If you asked any Alty supporter, we’d have taken staying up as superb as a part time team. To be top of the teams that were promoted as we finished 5th in the NLN is very good in my opinion, hopefully we’ll push on and consolidate next season with a higher league position than 17th.
And what’s your prediction for the game versus Torquay?
Think the score will be 2-2, you’ll rest a few players and it’ll be an entertaining match.
Just like to add, good luck to Torquay in the play offs after a dip in form, you’ve come back strong again at the end of the season to finish in 2nd position.
