5 LATEST TT DISCUSSION TOPICS ON TORQUAY UNITED
1 – THE RUN-IN
After a weekend off following the Tranmere draw, its back to business tomorrow night. Eastleigh sit cosy in mid-table safety (lucky them!), so it’s a great chance to keep the momentum going and turn them over. The players need to battle and battle some more, then with any luck we can win by the odd goal (or more would be lovely). The next three games are also against mid-table teams – Wrexham, Solihull and Chester. We really have to make those three count, as two tough fixtures at Aldershot and Lincoln follow shortly after.
2 – NARROW-MOOR
Of all the phrases to be uttered about ‘Torquay United’ this season, (the printable ones anyway!) I don’t think any have been used as much as “We’re too NARROW”. Nico has always preferred three in the middle, but last season we had marauding full backs in Berry and Butler. Unfortunately with LRT only going up twice a match (must be a clause in his contract) and Hodgkiss better in defence than attack, the flanks are too empty too often. Against Tranmere Luke was spending far too much time chasing out wide. As our best player he has to be central. On the plus side we’re no longer as soft in the centre, but it’s a formation that the fans will always struggle to love and creating chances may continue to be a problem.
3 – NO SIGNINGS
The spectre of ‘no signings’ has been hanging over us recently. Its almost become a club motto that ‘we have to get new boys in soon’. Harrop, Nico, the fans forum are all talking about it. The existing lads have the responsibity of getting the points at the moment, as we can’t keep waiting for white knights to ride in. I’d love to see a new winger and striker, but hey ho maybe we need to accept the the cards we have already been dealt!
4 – READY AND RUAIRING TO GO!
We ran a poll last week (don’t tell me you missed it!!) about which striker should play alongside the Brett in our attack. Surprise surprise the winner by a long margin was Ruairi. Reid and Harrad have done little to inspire confidence, so maybe Nico will chuck the Irishman in tomorrow night? Poor Harrad has tried and tried, trouble is the more he runs the less he looks like scoring; whilst Reidy is only a head down pacey sub at the moment. Let’s have more Irish charm!
5 – ENGERLAND ENGERLAND…
Friday night sees the England kids takes on Northern Ireland at Plainmoor. I will go and cheer the boys on, you never know some future Premiership stars could be strutting their stuff!
THE TT WEEK AHEAD
TORQUAY UNITED V EASTLEIGH PROGRAMME ARTICLES and TT MEMORY MATCH followed by the TT MATCH VERDICT and MID-WEEK POLL.
Have a good week everybody. I’ll try – 3 points from Kevin and the boys Tuesday would help!
